About Us

The BID straddles the Melrose and Mott Haven sections of the Bronx in Community Board #1.  The main commercial strip, generally known as “The Hub,” runs north and south of the intersection where Third, Melrose, Willis and Westchester Avenues and 149th Street intersect at Roberto Clemente Plaza.  If you look at the district on an aerial map it resembles the hub of a wheel, with all the major thoroughfares as the spokes.

The Hub BID was first established in 1988 by the property owners and merchants as a Merchants’ Association.  Several months later it evolved into the Hub Third Avenue Business Improvement District, and we have been providing program services to the merchants, property owners, shoppers and community residents ever since.

Since the mid-1980s there has been a great deal of residential and commercial development in the BID and surrounding community.    Due to its dense population, the Hub provides a strong retail trade area and local labor force.

The area is still an ideally situated retail and office location due to its easy accessibility.  Public transit includes two subway lines, the Melrose Avenue Metro-North stop and numerous bus routes.  The Hub is also easily accessible by car and parking is available at meters and local parking lots.
