Vision and Action PlanThe BID’s vision and action plan is a three-step scenario that has remained constant throughout the BID’s existence. The first step in the scenario regards the BID’s day-to-day activities in providing quality program services for our property owners, merchants and shoppers. The second step is to develop the empty lots known as sites 12, 6 and 7 that border the District and to participate in improvements to the DOT land within our southern boundary which is being developed as Roberto Clemente Square. The third and final step is to extend the boundaries of the BID to include the newly developed areas of Sites 12, 6 and 7. On a daily basis, our sanitation sweepers are constantly working to keep the District as clean as possible. The BID’s security officers, along with the 40th Precinct BID Conditions Unit, now known as the Hub BID unit, are doing an excellent job deterring crime and removing illegal peddlers from the District. Crime is down and quality of life conditions are on the rise. Promotional opportunities and special events enhance business in the area and give back to the community. Nevertheless, the future of the District is dependent on more than just program services. It is essential for the BID to press on and complete the entire three step scenario. Presently, step number two is in full bloom. On March 14, 2006, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg helped the Related Corporation break ground at Site12, located at 156th Street and Third Avenue. Construction was completed as scheduled by the beginning of 2008. New tenants are Forman Mills, Staples, Rite Aid Drugs, 9 West, Community Board#1 and the Bronx Branch of the New York City Department of Finance. Sites 6 and 7, running along 149th Street east of the BID, remain undeveloped, although testing has been completed and development is in the planning stages. Roberto Clemente Square is also in the beginning stages of development. The BID is currently engaged in the process of bringing site 12 into the District, and will eventually follow with Sites 6 and 7. Once all the above steps are completed, the BID District will be able to extend its improvements in safety, security, promotion, and community service to a wider and more modern area, including many more residents and local employees. This will result in the creation and maintenance of a large, vibrant, successful commercial area in the Bronx which will be a desirable place for everyone to live, work and shop. |
